I love ferns. I love their wispy demeanor and primal posture and their love of shade and I love their seeming ability to resist deer. Fortunately, ferns love it here and have gone forth and multiplied and are starting to fill in our landscape.
They only problem is that sometimes other flowers have to push and shove to get into the picture.
There is so much texture in the ferns and the unopened poppies. I can’t wait for them to POP! These are common field poppies that always open suddenly and whose blooms are fleeting. Click on the pictures to get a closer look.
I always mean to read Where the Red Fern Grows at this time of year. Have you read it?

I have read it. It was one of the first books Tom and I read together when we got married. It’s a beautiful story, especially for animal lovers. It did make us both cry, but that’s ok.
Does that mean it is on the bookshelf and YiaYia can borrow it?
Good books should make us cry or laugh or be angry or reflective.
I believe it is on the shelf and you can borrow it, but I will check. You have to come visit again to get it though
I will come and get it just as soon as I can. Better start looking.
Are these your ferns? They’re beautiful.
Ferns grow and thrive in Ireland like weeds. I’ve never had much luck with them in pots, I need to stick to plants that can tolerate my absentmindedness when it comes to watering!
Yes, they are ours. I love them. I never had luck with ferns in Elmhurst, try as I might, so was thrilled when I discovered them growing here. Tom thins them out each year, giving them new places to grow, and they keep spreading and coming back. I would love to see them in Ireland. Take a picture sometime when you are there. I just gave you another blog.
