On Sunday, we went to the Geneva Concours d’Elegance car show in Geneva, Illinois. A pretty fancy sounding name for a pretty lovely antique car show. One of the main streets, 3rd Street, and several of the side streets were rimmed with antique cars in pristine condition. Be sure to click onto the pictures to get a better look.
It was one of the rare sunny Sundays of this summer with low humidity, making it a pleasure to walk around among a friendly crowd of car admirers and collectors and to appreciate the craftsmanship, ingenuity, mechanics and engineering of man and his machine.
For some reason I cannot explain, I was fascinated Sunday with the tires and rims and reflections on the cars, which were buffed to a shine and reflected the sun creating images of all who stopped to look.
It was as fun to look through the rear view windows and see all that was happening around the cars as it was to stand back and admire the lines and curves.
Anybody want to race?
We broke for lunch in a quiet Italian restaurant called Chianti’s.
(the picture is for you, Jennifer)
Anyone remember this magic bus?
Then there were other modes of transportation.
While this fellow just stood and watched.
Then we stopped for some cold drinks and raced back home.
Not really. We took our time and enjoyed the walk back to the car.
It looks like we are at an amusement park in the house of mirrors, doesn’t it?
Can you find us?
We have been so busy this summer, all of which we enjoyed, but it was fun to just kick back for a while and just enjoy the day.

Cool!
Thanks! smile, smile
I love old cars. I like the way the ones that survive are so cared for. The shine!
I can’t get over the dog in a pushchair? His tongue is the same pink as his chariot.
Aren’t they wonderful? It is nice to see them well cared for, I agree, Joan.
Can you believe that dog? It is an actual carrier made just for dogs (so I was told). He and his tongue drew almost as many gazers as did the car.
Love your photos Penny, so full of fascinating reflections but no, I couldn’t spot you. My father had a VW Kombi at one stage when we were growing up as there were 8 of us altogether and often one or other of us would have a friend staying as well – the space was needed!
Thank you, Marilyn. If you click on the bottom picture you will see a man and a woman taking a picture and looking like they are at a “fun house” carnival mirror. I’m in the white pants. Tom is a foot taller than me. ha!
It must have been fun driving about in that VW Kombi.
Nice picts! You got some good rim shots for sure.
Thank you, Jennifer. You and Jason should try to go next year as I know you would get even better rim shots – and others as well. There was such a nice, wide variety of cars and years and I have never seen such a nice and polite crowd of people (and it was a crowd).
Glad you guys enjoyed the car show. Bring back memories of many car shows on father’s day at OakBrook Mall. Sure, memories of me trying really hard not to wine that I was tired and it was hot and my feet hurt, so I might have ruined the fun, but memories nonetheless
Some fun shots you took and it seems like you are really enjoying some new angles and things!
I love that white dog. Can I have one? Please?
Ah, yes, Katy and the Car Show . . . I’m ready to sign away the movie rights to this thriller. It was fun to try some different angles that I might not have even thought of a few years ago.
Sure. You can have the dog. I’ll bring it up to MN next time I come.
