Did you ever wake up with a song in your head? Not the last song you heard before you fell asleep or the jingle that woke you up on the radio. A song from your past that crept in under the cover of night and stayed there, waiting for you to wake up and notice it. A song that makes you grin in a strange sort of “why in the world did I think about that” kind of way, as you hop in the shower or tie your shoes and there it is, following you around your farmers market or the hardware store, humming around your head like a bee.
“Little Lulu, Little Lulu, with freckles on your chin,
Always in and out of trouble, but mostly always in.
Using Daddy’s necktie for the tail on your kite,
Using Mommy’s lipstick for the letters you write.”
Do any of you remember Lulu? Tubby? Iggy?
Now I’m going to have Lulu in my head. All of the cloth dolls that my grandmother made for us were called Lulu. Mine is sitting quietly in my curio cabinet. She is precious to me. I remember hearing “Little Lulu I love you-lu ‘deed I do-lu.” I also remember Lulu in the “funny papers” more than television.
I remember the comic strip a well, Janet, though I do recall the animated cartoon with that song? For the life of me, I don’t know why it came to me. How nice that you still have your Lulu and can see her and remember fond things.
Thank goodness I don’t know that song or it would be in my head too!
I don’t know why it started playing in my head, Janet. I promise I won’t sing it when I see you.
It;s a cure wee song but I have never heard of it. At times a song comes in to my head and then i find myself humming along to it for so long
It was an animated cartoon that air here for a short while when I was but a child. The funniest thing to suddenly remember.
No I don’t know Lulu and her song. I enjoyed the song though. Maybe it was one bit of America that didn’t make it to NZ…but I wouldn’t know.
I love the idea that you wake up with songs in your head Penny. That’s lovely.
Isn’t it a silly little ditty? I’m not sure it even made the morning Saturday cartoon shows around the states, but, there it is, stuck in my brain, even today. Oh well …
