Wandering about, I found some interesting and, shall I say “active”, fungus growing on a few dead trees. They seem to emerge every year here on the cutoff. Their strange shapes and colors are interesting and I am amazed at how quickly they grow.
Come along with me for a spell and see what I’m talking about.
Two days later, these three little piggies turned into this:
’tis like the fairies built platforms to dance upon under the harvest moon.
“Stand back” said the elephant “I’m going to sneeze”.

Achoo!
Shiver me timbers, ye’ve blown the bark right off of me.

I sneaked a peek after seeing your comment of Kate’s blog. Love the fairy stairs and dancing platforms – I feel a story coming on
I’m glad you sneaked a peak, Liz. Thank you for stopping by. That could be a very interesting story that is coming on . . . Your blog looks very interesting.
Fabulous photos Penny. I have never seen fungi quite like that. The do look like fairy platforms. Amazing things.
Loved the little piggies!
Thank you, Joan. They are really rather interesting are only here for a short time. I think they come to help me through the time of flowers to the time of autumn colors.
I was amazed at how fast those piggies grew! ha!
That was so weird last night (for us here) and all the difficulties with both blogspot and wordpress. Think it was the fairies building platforms in cyberspace?
Penny, these are just brilliant! I am a fungus bore…..I love them and they are so prevalent here this time of year. I found a really strange one a couple of months ago that looked just like a flower. It’s one of those times one wishes one could attach a photo as a reply.
Thank you. It’s people like you that keep our spirits up and our perceptions broad:-)
Thank you, Kate – and I thought I was the only fungus bore out here. Aren’t they amazing to observe at this time of year? I would love to see your fungus flower.
What a nice thing to say. You made my day!
wonderful images. i so delight in spotting a fungus, each is an image of God’s work
debra
Oh, Debra, you say it so well. I just came in now after another look around and they are growing even more. I’m sure they will soon suffer from the cold, but then, if we are lucky, the puffballs will emerge. Thank you for your comment.
I am a bit late in leaving a comment – I have had a busy weekend but I wanted to say how much I love all of these photos, they are wonderful Penny. Isn’t nature marvellous!
Indeed, Marilyn, nature is marvelous. Thanks for commenting after such business. I don’t know where the time went, myself, but I do know it was grand. Hope your time was as well.
Great pictures Penny, your piglets made me laugh-they do look like snouts-you are just having too much fun.
Thanks, Sharon. I am having fun, piglets and all. I think this is the part of me that never grew up.
