This little folk tune had been playing around in my head last week. Then Tom mentioned it when we were wandering around the arboretum on Sunday. He in a private grade school, me, a public, both recalled the music teacher rolling the school piano down the hall and into the classroom and teaching us “Frog Went a Courtin’ ” . Neither of us could remember who Frog was courtin’ though.
Uh, huh!
(Miss Moussie, of course – thank you Google.)
Do you remember this?
Frog went a courtin’ and he did ride, uh-huh
Frog went a courtin’ and he did ride, uh-huh
Frog went a courtin’ and he did ride
With a sword and a pistol by his side, uh-huh uh-huh uh-huh
Need more? Try Bob Dylan.
I remember it well, Penny. My parents were folk singers, contemporary with Bob. What a joy to hear it after all these years
Thank you!
Now that you mention, I believe you mention this in one of your posts. How fun that must have been, Kate. Our public television ran several programs on the singer/songwriters of the time that was fascinating. You are most welcome!
I must have missed out on that one Penny – but it was great to hear it for the first time being sung by my all time favorite, Bob Dylan, thanks! It’s kind of funny to think of you and Tom walking around with that song in both your heads!
Others have recorded it, including the likes of Elvis and Springsteen, but no one quite sings it like Bob Dylan. It is, isn’t it? He was a “Catholic” and me a “public” school student, and there we were, traipsing around the arboretum, thinking at the same time “uh, huh”. ha! When we sang it in school, the first round would always have kids accentuating the “uh, huh” as only children can do, and we would have to start all over and sing it correctly.
I see your comment below that the daffodils are in bloom. yea!
By the way, I was at the Arboretum today and sure enough, the daffodils are blooming!
Funny, I have never heard this one before
Now you will have to learn this to teach it to Harriet in a few years. I think it is a very old English tune.
You’ve brought an old rhyme back into me head, where it’s singing along nicely.
I meant to say ‘into my head’ of course, but once posted it can’t be changed!
Haha! I rather liked the sound of “into me head”, Juliet. It goes with the old English background of the song. Enjoy the rhyme.
He came up to Miss Mousies Door uh, huh. We were probably singing it in Springfield at about the same time. I always loved music class and the rolling piano.
Uh, huh. Uh, huh. That’s funny, Janet. I know. I loved the rolling music teacher, though now cringe for the art and music teachers that have to teach from a cart. We would always sing uh, huh with great emphasis as only children can, and then have to start all over and do it the proper way.
Did you know that since I read this, I have been singing this song in my head? ;-D
And the picture…just perfect.
Thank you for stopping by the cottage, I so enjoy your visits
Mrs. M.
I hope you are enjoying singing it, Mrs. M. This little frog sits in my garden, minding the flowers.
Thank you. I will be back.
