Tiptoe through the window
By the window, that is where I’ll be
Come tiptoe through the tulips with me
From Tiptoe Through the Tulips by Al Dubin
What joy it was to see the sunshine as it danced among the tulips in the vases on an icy cold February morning.
Here on the Cutoff. we managed to dodge most of the snow that caused winter havoc in other areas, for which we are grateful. It was easy to appreciate the sunshine on Saturday, and the clear sky with a fingernail moon in a starlit sky come evening. They were gifts to our winter weary souls, and a welcome reminder that spring is waiting in the wings.
Come, tiptoe through the tulips with me for a few minutes here.
Or, if you prefer Laugh In, Tiny Tim, and a brief glimpse of a very young Goldie Hawn, go here.

Beautiful tulips Penny. Tiny tim is my favourite.. I like singing that song in his voice.. in private. In NZ ukeleles are very popular just now and have in Wellington a wonderful Ukelele orchestra that does this song.
What fun to sing Tiny Tim’s version! Gosh, when he was first doing his rendition, we’d all sing it like him. I like ukeleles. A friend, who was born and raised in Hawaii, lent us a CD with ukelele music a year or so ago and I enjoyed listening to it. It must be a pleasure to listen to that orchestra.
Such a colorful, cheerful reminder that the seasons are changing. Fresh flowers always add a touch of class. I like the song with or without Tiny Tim. I am so old that I remember seeing his wedding to Miss Vicky on Johnny Carson-argh. Have a delightful week!
I love fresh flowers, Marilyn. These tulips were so fresh and inexpensive at Trader Joe’s. I needed them to tide me over until the garden starts to bloom. Oh, gosh, I remember that wedding, wondering why I was even watching it, but, doing it none-the-less. You too.
Beautiful flower photos Penny and I love the cloth over the table in the second one! It was fun to see the older version of “Tip Toe Through the Tulips” that I never knew existed. But the Tiny Tim version is the one I always knew and thanks to your link I’ve spent the last 1/2 hour listening to Tiny Tim videos!
As far as spring coming, maybe it’s the Chicagoan in me but I feel a little bit guilty that it is coming after such a mild winter, as though we’ve cheated, and I’m waiting for the other shoe to fall!
Thank you, Janet. I didn’t know about the older version either until I looked for Tiny Tim’s version. It’s fun to see, isn’t it? Tiny Tim. I think he’s still around.
I know what you mean, Janet, it’s almost (almost) as if we don’t deserve it. ha! We do. Enjoy it. We could still get walloped in March.
How beautiful to see the signs of spring coming your way. The colours of the tulips are gorgeous, and very happy-making.
They made me feel happy, Juliet, so I appreciate your comment on that. We still have some snow and cold, but, soon. Very soon.
I love the play of light and shadow in the middle photo. These are beautiful reminders of spring to come, perfect for this snowy , but very peaceful day.
The sun was just hitting the tulips at just the right angle. I just couldn’t resist buying a bunch the other day. Thank you, Teresa.
I’ll take Tiny Tim’s version. Your tulips are beautiful, Penny. We will have them blooming in the yard before we know it. Our Wal-Mart had some around Valentine’s Day but I didn’t see any this weekend.
Thank you, Joyce. Soon, yes, very soon. The tulips and daffodils are just now starting to show up in the stores and I can’t resist them, especially if they are nicely priced, as these were at a Trader Joe’s. Sadly, they are starting to lose their petals now.
Your tulips are so pretty and are giving me a case of spring fever. Tiny Tim, so funny. He was such and unusual sort. If he walked down the street of a big city today, probably no one would even turn a head, but he was unique in his time. Goldie is as always adorable.
I’m glad you didn’t get the terrible snow as some places did. We had just enough to make the ground white. I hope it is the last of the year, don’t you?
Spring fever is a contagious malady right about now, isn’t it Janet? Tiny Tim seemed such and oddity at the time. You are so right. He wouldn’t turn a head now at all, and Goldie; ah, Goldie is still adorable. She was so different then. So cute, wasn’t she?
Me too. The snow did cling so beautifully to the trees here. It’s all gone now with the temperatures coming back up and we’ve had some wind here. Yes. I’m hoping it is the last of the snow. March is coming, and we all know how that can go.
That was fun Penny! Both versions and your flowers too. (When they actually start blooming, I am going to be very jealous. No tulips here in the subtropics.)
Glad you had fun, Sallie. We couldn’t wait for Laugh In to come on every week. It was so different and funny at the time. Oh, I know. Those tulip blossoms don’t like the heat at all. Right now, your subtropical weather is awfully appealing.
It doesn’t get cold enough for tulips to grow well here, but MTM always buys them at the appropriate Midwestern time and scatters them around the house. I never really noticed tulips until I met him, an unexpected visual gift.
They are so beautiful and so short-lived, Andra, but are such a delight after our (usually) long, snowy winters. I’m sure you enjoy them when MTM scatters them about.
Dear Penny,
I’d never before seen either renditions of “Tip-toe Through the Tulips,” so your posting today delighted me. The tulips are lovely, and I so enjoyed watching what the film makers did with the tulips in the movie. You do introduce me to the most interesting books and experiences.
Peace.
PS. I started the first Laura Ingalls Wilder book last night. It’s a larger book–the 75th anniversary edition by Harper. It’s illustrated by Gareth Williams.
I’m so enjoying it. Thank you, Penny.
I’m so glad it did, Dee. Tiny Tim was a bit of a celebrity in my teen years, then faded away. I can upon the older film quite by accident and enjoyed it and wanted to share it.
What a nice edition that must be, Dee. I love Garth Williams’ illustrations, especially of the Little House books. I’m pleased to hear you are enjoying it. You are so very welcome. The books have a bit more to them as Laura gets older.
Beautiful photos, beautiful flowers! And I so enjoyed Tiny Tim! Believe it or not he came to our church once when I was in high school, causing quite a stir! It wasn’t a big church and I no longer remember if there was a reason or it was random, but I always chuckle when I remember that! This was delightful! Debra
Thank you, Debra, and I’m glad you enjoyed Tiny Tim.
Wow! That is certainly something to remember, especially as a teenager. He was such an odd sort of person, wasn’t he? I kept thinking as I put this together that today he wouldn’t be such an oddity as he was then.
Thanks for this fun post, Penny. I must confess to never having been a fan of Tiny Tim, but I enjoyed the old film clip. This song reminds me of the village concerts we used to attend and take part in when I was a child. I still know almost all the words because of having learned it to perform back then.
I’m not too much of a fan of Tiny Tim either, Perpetua, altlhough his was the first rendition I ever remember hearing of the song. Wasn’t it a wonderful film clip? What a fun song to perform to and what delightful memories those must be for you.
