Overheard.
Two women talking in the garden section of Home Depot.
They were perusing the plants when one said to the other,
“I have chlamydia.”
”I think you mean clematis.”
”I’ve cut my chlamydia down three times already and it keeps coming back”.
We had a good laugh.
Twice.
The first time when the conversation was repeated to me.
The second when we sat down in the arbor and there, poking through the lattice, was my clematis, about to bloom.
I had cut down – once.
Are you saying that if I cut down my chlamydia (clematis), it will rebloom? I didn’t know that!!
Depending on the variety, you may get a second bloom before winter. I cut them all down late winter and they are fuller and stronger this year with more buds waiting to open.
I’ll try it! Mine has finished blooming, so it can’t hurt…

It is, isn’t it Sunday? I found myself wondering at the conversation that went on with the women on the way home.
I recall thinking it was really disturbing to hear about clematis and spiarea in high school, when I had to listen to a radio gardening show with you!
I remember it quite clearly, Katy. It was the Kathy and Judy show on WGN and you were quite perturbed at the time. What we parents put our children through. I think of it every time I see spirea. ha!
I can’t stop laughing! Actually I cut my down after it bloomed and it rebloomed well into cold weather. A first time for me.
