What started out as an inexpensive way to celebrate Valentine’s Day three years ago has grown into an annual event.
Who knew that when we asked Rick and Patty and Rich and Joan if they would like to join us for a “couples date” that it would become an event we would all look forward to? Two more couples, Tom and Peggy, Brian and Cindy, joined in the fun this year after they heard about our fun – at church.
We met, once again, at the “porcelain palace” in Brookfield for a round of sliders and a load of laughs, followed by dessert at Joan and Rich’s house.
I first told wrote about Valentine’s Day at White Castle here. Last year, I stayed home babysitting Kezzie while Tom and Katy were on a trip. Everyone came back to our house for desert, armed with a few sliders for me, so, it was still fun for me and kept the momentum going. I like it when life keeps its momentum, don’t you?
Sliders are small, square hamburgers in little square buns known throughout the Chicagoland area.
It was fun from the moment we came in the door and milled around waiting for our ten seats at three tables (or was it four?) to be arranged. No easy task in a fast food venue, but the servers were super and we kept the other guests wondering who we were as we shot paper straws in the air – and at each other.
Really. We should all grow up, shouldn’t we? Maybe next year. Maybe not.
As we were leaving, one of the servers came up and said she recognized us from two years ago. I guess we must have made quite an impression.
These are the favors that Tom and Peggy brought for us. Conversation hearts.
I wonder where desert will be next year?
