‘Tis the last rose of summer
Left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone;
No flower of her kindred,
No rosebud is nigh,
To reflect back her blushes,
To give sigh for sigh.
Thomas Moore 1779-1852
I saw her first from the livingroom, sitting tall upon a stem, alone. As soon as she caught my eye, I grabbed the camera and rushed out to capture her. She was acting coy, posing just so, like an aging beauty showing her best profile, knowing this could be her final performance. She swayed in the crisp autumn breeze and tried to catch the rays of the sun and, in the end, she knew she had given it her best and she slowly took a bow.
My last rose of summer.
Absolutely gorgeous Penny.

Thank you, Kate. It is fun, isn’t it, this blogging business? I’m hoping my single rose is still there tomorrow. The deer have been known to nosh at night. Penny
