Father Time was closing the door to 2010. I knew from the sound of fireworks a few houses down the Cutoff; just enough to remind me of the passage of one year to another.
Our house was quiet as the clock tolled the twelve o’clock hour. With my head nestled atop my pillow and my eyes closing to sleep, I reflected on the year gone by: its delights and its challenges, and I enjoyed the contentment that often comes at day’s end of family and friends and good wishes as the new year commenced with all its hopes and dreams.
A simple meal of roasted pork, mashed potatoes and gravy, and applesauce with a side of vegetables filled us on New Year’s Eve. Sweet Christmas cookies followed for desert and a rented movie had us laughing. I didn’t need the image of a New Year’s baby to tell me that time was passing. Our sweet little Kezzie was up to that challenge. She ate her little dinner with us at the table, cooing at Maya, our cockatiel. Her entrée of sweet potatoes was smeared all over her – and everything around her as well. Remember those days?
Baby’s bathtime on New Year’s Eve.
Is there anything sweeter than a baby’s smell after a bath?
Ah, the passage of time from year to year and from one generation to the next.
Simply illustrated in a baby’s bath on a rainy New Year’s Eve.
Welcome 2011!
Oh, what a little darling, and yes that is the sweetest smell. There’s nothing newer than a little baby, and what a blessing to have her presence at the dawning of a new year.

Thank you, Juliet. It was a special time to have her about, crawling and cooing and smiling at us, much like your little dear at your bach.

What a gorgeous wee thing she is and how lovely to have her in your home as you welcome in the new year and all that it brings.
A new baby, another generation, surely does mark the passage of time. It is hard to believe that my youngest, my baby, will be a father himself in the not too distant future.

Thank you, Marilyn. We were so fortunate to have her here this year with her mom and dad and her aunt and uncle joining in. I wish the best for you and your family, and especially that new little baby soon to come.

Oh, what a sweetie pie. Love the after bath smell of babies. We spent this New Year’s Day with Zachary (three at the end of the month) and Lucas (2 in July). My goodness time passes so fast. It seems like just yesterday they were born. When family members gather ’round us, we enjoy creating the memories. Aren’t you glad we have all of this current media to help us record those precious moments?

How did those boys get so big so fast? There is nothing like family gathering and memories being made, though we don’t always realize it until a bit later on. I am glad, Janet, and feel fortunate that we can capture memories in an instant with a camera and the computer. Gone are the days of 12 pictures on a roll of film and a week to be developed (though I think the pictures were of a better quality). Enjoy your Sunday.

Look at all the hair that girl is getting and your soap curl is so cute, but then again she is such a cutie anyway. I’m sure you have a smile from ear to ear after spending the end of the year with her and her Mom and Dad. It all makes for a new beginning…Happy New Year Grandma & Grandpa too….

I know. In the few weeks since I last saw her she really grew a lot of hair and, when dry, has the cutest little curl that wraps around one ear. Her mommy was responsible for the soap curl and I couldn’t resist. It was a wonderful week with them and Auntie Jenny and Uncle Jason and a chance to play with cousins Scott and Jake as well. Yea!

I know, Jennifer. Just the sweetest bit of darlinghood. I was glad you got to see her again before the year ended and they headed up north. I know she loves her Auntie Jenny a whole big bunch. We noticed when she eats she opens and closes her little fists in excitement of the next bite. Reminds me of another little blue-eyed darling. Want to guess who?

You New Year’s Eve sounded a lot like ours, pork roast and all! However, our ‘baby’ has grown out of the smearing of sweet potatoes stage. How wonderful that you were able to spend the holiday with your darling Kezzie!

I hadn’t made a pork roast in ever-so-long and it was delicious. We were so lucky to have Kezzie (and her parents) with us for such a long time. I know it won’t always be that way.

Thank you, Rachel. We did. She loves her bath. I can’t wait to read to her. Right now she is more interested in eating and throwing books. All in good time . . .
