The Blizzard of 2011.
While it didn’t best the Great Chicago Snowstorm of 1967, it came close, and will be a snowstorm to remember.
Tuesday afternoon, just as the snowflakes began to appear, the arbor and lawn looked like this.
Wednesday morning saw this, looking out our backdoor, which was held firmly closed by a snowdrift.
By mid-afternoon, our neighbor’s plowing and Tom’s hard work with the snow blower and shovels, there was this.
Shadows found time to dance with the sun and the snow rolled out a white, fluffy carpet to our door.
At day’s end, we were still safe and warm inside our house, the sun had come out, the winds had died down, and all was well on the Cutoff.
Here is hoping the weather is being kind to you, wherever you are this day.
Beautiful winter pictures. I would say the midwest triumphs again. We don’t let a little snow keep us down. Jim spent five hours on our lane yesterday. He worked from our house out of course.

Ha ha, I accidentally hit comment too soon. The cat helped with that.
As I was saying, he worked one way and our good neighbor worked at the other end. Others came to help, but ended up stuck and had to get each other out. Our whole lane was about three feet deep and it is longer than a football field. That is a lot of snow to move. It is so nice to have the help of good people.
I clicked on your brave little bird on the railing and I see another photo. I don’t know why–computers are a puzzle. Stay warm on this cold day.

Ha! Nothing like a helpful cat.
Thank you. It is nature in all its beauty. It snowed, and snowed, and snowed, and then, we all went outside. Yea! Midwesterners!
We, too, are fortunate for good neighbors, here and in our old house. One time, years ago, after a big storm and while Tom was recovering from surgery, the owner of the local gas station we always went to sent over an employee to plow our drive. He just figured we needed some help (we did). Boy, you had a great deal of snow and drifting, didn’t you? I’m wondering where you moved the snow to.
Sorry about the little bird. I clicked it to check and it was fine. Just before I took the picture there were two birds on the rail. The other one flew to the feeder at just the right second.
It is very cold here, but, the sun is out.

Beautiful! But so much of it! Glad you are safe and warm, Penny. I can’t complain about blizzards now I’ve read about the one you have just had in Chicago – the one I drove back to New York in after Christmas looks like a sprinkling next to these photos!
Stay indoors today!

Thank you, Rachel. We are used to snow, but, this one was a humdinger. I’m amazed at how much better we have gotten and getting things running again, having endured the Great Chicago Snowstorm of ’69, which still holds the record.
You’re ride back home sounded treacherous, Rachel, and the entire East Coast has been hit by several storms this year. You will have some tales of weather to tell those cute nephews when you get back home.
