With the weather warming, I find myself wandering the grounds once or twice a day, checking for wind and deer damage and to see what is emerging. Though curiosity has me under its spell, I don’t dare disturb the leaves and mulch. Tender shoots are, for the most part, hidden and protected, and Madame March still dips below freezing. Only that which finds its own way is safe above the ground right now.
The force of nature in spring and her determination is daunting. We know that as we continue to see the devastation of winds and rain, earthquakes and tsunami, violence and destruction. Nature can also be a subtle awakening, however, as I discovered upon closer investigation of the carpet of leaves above.
Take a closer look.
It is amazing how strong emerging bulbs are in their attempt to find the sun.
A little further away, I saw another bit of green.
Can you see it? No? Here is a closer look.
Finders keepers. losers weepers, I always say.
Enjoy this first day of Spring!
It never ceases to amaze my that something so soft, so vulnerable, can push it’s way through the crust of harden earth or bark of a tree. The wonders of Nature.
I love your other ‘green’ find Penny. Don’t spend it all at once!

It is amazing, Marilyn. I routinely tell myself that I am not in control.
That was an unexpected find. I won’t spend it all at once.

I’m loving watching for these delicate signs of spring with you, Penny. It’s so different from how spring happens here. Such tender little shoots lifting the lid to bring their heads up into the light! – and the other green shoot – do you think if you left it there it would grow into a money tree?!

I’m so pleased that you are, Juliet. It is so interesting seeing how different our seasons are, each with its own beauty. I’m just amazed at how strong these shoots can be and their want to survive. Ah, yes, that would be rather nice, now, wouldn’t it?

My goodness, isn’t it good to see those things peeking up?
I think you have a rhyming theme going on in March. Tee hee

The really odd thing is that Tom found another one today in another part of the yard. These are crisp, new bills. We’re suspecting leprechauns.

That is strange! When I start finding shiny dimes laying around, it usually means I’m going to get some money – a check shows up in the mail, I finally sell the house, etc. But $5 bills – hurry, go buy a lottery ticket!

Oh your spring arrival is magic. To think it was all covered in snow not so long ago. In fact how quickly the seasons seem to pass these days. Maybe because I have the time to watch their arrival in more detail. May the leprechauns be around your every corner!

It is, Joan, but we enter spring cautiously. There are predictions of snow at week’s end. The good news is that we know it won’t last very long. They do pass more quickly, don’t they? I think that maybe that is the trade-off for getting to enjoy them more. I revel in every leaf that unfolds, greens, colors, and then catches the snow – even if it seems to happen to me so quickly.
Ha! I’m wonderin’ if there is one lurking about right now.

Hello:
We worked out in the yard this weekend and raked quite a bit. I did uncover all of the many ‘shoots’ of the Heleborus which is pretty tough and is one of Springs first discoveries!
Never found any ‘5’s’ tho……………not a one!
Love your style and your personality Penny.

Wasn’t it a beautiful weekend? It sounds like you have a great many Heleborus , Mary Anne. How welcoming they are and they will tough it out if we get some more cold/snow.
Thank you, Mary Anne.

That thought occurred to me, Sharon. ha! I think more likely kids catching the bus. Or, deer, thanking us for feeding them so well.

It looks the the deer don’t eat paper money, so that seems to be a good thing to have in one’s garden.
We have some daffodils ready to bloom soon by the back door.

Ours are almost ready to pop next to the house, Bev. The ones along the side of the property still have a ways to go as it isn’t as sunny there. I eagerly await Jerry’s daffodils to start blooming there.
