I wanted to make these since I first laid eyes on them in July. They make a sweet little presentation, and are a tasty treat as well.
A pie in a jar!
I first saw them at StoneGable and was inspired to try them. The time finally came this weekend. I was to bring a desert to a dinner with friends, had a refrigerator full of blueberries, and was determined to make something with what I had on hand. I did need a trip to the hardware store for four-ounce canning jars, however. You can never have enough jars and these are such a cute size. I used Martha Stewart’s pie crust recipe, which I recommend and will use again. The link to that can also be found at the StoneGable site.
Have you used anything interesting to bake in lately?
Do tell.
Great idea!! The church is having a wiener roast at my house in October. This may be a neat idea for a treat. Or maybe when all of the kids come over. I noticed that they have been selling fresh peaches around here. Thanks for sharing! I wish I had something creative to share.

Thanks! I was happy to finally have an opportunity to make then share it. Even serving ice cream in the 4 ounce jars would be a treat.
You share many things, Janet. In fact, as soon as the breeze dies down, I’m off to “dust” some spider webs, thanks to you.

Oh these wee pies look wonderful, I must tell Jeff. For his recent birthday Nathan and Bridie gave him small ramekin dishes and several recipes to use with them, and I wonder this one may work well in his new dishes. I must explain that over a period of time I had four lots of surgery on my foot which required me to sit with my foot up for weeks at a time after each op and Jeff became the chief cook-and-bottle-washer – and found that he thoroughly enjoyed cooking. Now most days he is home he cooks a meal or bakes.

I think it these would be splendid in small ramekins, Marilyn. This has happened to a few friends of mine whose husbands found they enjoyed the kitchen when they needed to take over. I think it is grand! Let me know if he makes some of these pies.

Thanks for stopping by.

These look so delectable Penny; you had my mouth watering. I used to make french onion soup in little ramekins and then pop them under the grill to toast the bread and cheese on top.

Your reminisce of French onion soup now has my mouth watering, Juliet. Soup weather is upon us as the weather is cooling. Made in the ramekins and grilling the cheese sounds so tasty. Thanks for sharing.

Pie in a jar. Who Knew? Not I. My, those look good. Wish I was your neighbor. I’d be knocking on your door with a bib on.

I wish you were my neighbor, too, Teresa. I’d greet you with an old, tattered apron on and we’d dig right into a jar or two, or three.

These look delicious! Did you bring a jar for each person? How wonderful for the host/hostess to not have to provide plates and what a nice presentation!

They were, Janet, and yes, there was a jar for each person. There were just four of us, but, I made eight; two extra for the hosts, and two I kept, selfishly, for us. They were the small, four ounce jars. The hostess, unfortunately, did have to provide a plate as they jars were a bit sticky from the juice of the fruit that oozed out. She really liked the presentation, however, and it was fun to do.

You could probably wrap them in some sort of paper and tie a ribbon around them in the future, sort of like the reverse of how you would do it on a lid of preserves. Again, they look delicious and I’m going to forward a link of this post to Kate who I know will be delighted to make them!

Janet, what a great idea. Craft paper, parchment paper, even waxed paper would work and with a bow would add to the presentation and spare the extra dish. Thanks. I hope Kate will enjoy these.
