It was a sunny but frigid day as I walked along the street to my car after a trip to the post office. I don’t know what made me look up, but, there, coming out of the window of a second floor apartment, over a business, was an arm around a Christmas tree. One doesn’t see such a sight every day, so, up I shouted “Hi! That looks very nice” to which a reply came “Should I move the tree to the right?” and out popped a head.
We discussed the position of the tree, I admired her decorating, she told me her family’s history, and off I went – but not before asking if she minded me taking a picture.

Makes me wonder. Do you have an outdoor Christmas tree?
What fun – a Christmas tree for all to share. I’ll be out at the bach, creating one out of flax, according to Mira’s request. So who knows what will eventuate!

I do hope you take a picture of your flax Christmas tree and post it, Juliet. I love the traditional, but, I love the creative as well. I have a good friend who made her own tree, crafted from an old one, to be form-fitting against a window when she had less room.

American ingenuity alive and well… No front yard? No problem!
There’s just no telling what we’ll see, or whom we might meet when we’re not focused only on what’s right in front of us! Love that you took the time to help out!
Oh, in answer to your query, no outside tree for us, but seeing the inventiveness here I may have to re-think what we might do another year! 🙂

Isn’t that the truth, Karen? It is a reminder to me that there is so much to life going on right before me if I just look. We don’t have one outside, either.

This post just makes me smile in so many ways! It’s wonderful that the lady is decorating her outside window — who ever would think of that? And it’s wonderful that you were there at just the right time to help and visit and take the picture; I love little encounters like that — glad you shared yours!

I know. It tickled me to see it in progress. It is those encounters that make the world a little sweeter, isn’t it?

This is great!!! People can be so fun. I seem to remember two silly college girls dragging a tree miles and miles, uphill all the way, in deep snow and and bitter cold and then, all the way to the sixth floor. All for a little Christmas cheer for friends away from home for the first time. Giggle.

They can be fun, can’t they? I love the spontaneous moments.
Hey! I remember those silly girls. I think they hauled that tree up the six flight of stairs after waling all those miles, didn’t they? What fun that was. I still remember it. I may have to do a post on it sometime. You can help me with it. tee hee

Yes, that was a bit of a challenge, wasn’t it – especially with me in the rear. Or was I up front? Or did we try to get it in sideways? ha!

I do, too, Teresa. I need to go by and see what it looks like with the lights lit at night. What a nice gift her tree is to all those going by on the commuter train a block away. Fun!

What fun.. and see the leafless vine all about the window. The greenery takes on a special meaning in the winter. Here in NZ celebrating northern Christmas we are surrounded by greenery everywhere because summer is here. I want Winter Christmas!!!!!! Can you tell I’m suffering from winter Christmas envy, Penny !!

Oh, Joan, I wish I could send some snow your way, but, we don’t even have any here! It is 50°F and raining. Very unusual for these parts. I’ll be sure to post a winter Christmas scene from here – if it ever comes.

You were probably out in the suburbs, but that whole interaction sounded so much like a Chicago encounter!

It did have the feel of Chicago, Janet, especially the chain link fence that held in the little parking area. It was actually in La Grange, just a block from The Grapevine.
