It is quiet here on the Cutoff this Valentine’s afternoon. A dusting of snow powdered the morning as I sat, filling out bills and forms and such; catching up on a small hill of “stuff” that was awaiting my return from Minnesota.
I’d best pick up my pace a bit if the mail is going to get where it needs to be.
I seem to be a bit sluggish after yesterday’s seven hour car ride down along the interstate that connects three states. After so many days filled with new language and pretend, books and snuggles and baby kisses, I need to change tempo.
Ah, if I close my eyes tight and breath in deep, I can still smell that delightful baby smell and if I’m quiet, very quiet, which I’m trying to be, I can hear my own heart ticking like Kezzie’s clock and pretend to be with her still.
Aha! There on the counter is a small box of chocolates with my name on it. If I take just one, maybe two, perhaps the sluggishness will abate and I will relish all that is here at home for me today, like these rose petals, still fresh and fragrant. After a bite or two, or three, I will remember to wish you all a very wonderful Valentine’s Day!
What a peaceful feeling to your post. I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

It was fun, Teresa, in a goofy kind of way. I hope yours was wonderful as well? Homemade wine?

I am a bit sluggish today too. We were in Peoria last night taking our granddaughters to the plane taking them back to Arizona and sunshine. Their visit was way too brief, but we have a pocket full of memories and lots of “see you soons” to hang on to. Jim and I will just enjoy being home and cozy today. Yesterday’s snow is melting but still evident here and there. Have a wonderful Valentine’s day yourself.

You’ve been so busy, Janet – no wonder your sluggish today. Hope you (and I) get our bounce back asap. What a wonderful thought – a “pocket full of memories”. I’ll be borrowing that, I’m sure, and I’m glad it is many memories you have of the girls’ visit after such a long while. Hope you stayed home and stayed cozy. We did our now annual trip to the “porcelain palace” – fun and not too late.

Dear Penny,
Thank you for this lovely Valentine posting. I can hear the longing within you for Kezzie’s presence. She, too, must be missing you. But oh those chocolates. As Kate said, they are a cure-all. I bought a Snickers candy bar yesterday for later today!
Peace.

My pleasure, Dee. Yes, I’m longing, but, grateful for the time I had with Kezzie. Indeed, Kate is right and I hope you relished that Snickers bar today. what will power you have. I’m afraid I would have bitten into it by now. Good for you, Dee.

Almost . . . I’ll keep trying and see if I find something it won’t cure, Andra.

What a lovely picture you paint with your gentle words, Penny. Yes, you must miss Kezzie, as I always miss our grandsons when we part, but the memories are there until the next meeting. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day.

How sweet of you to say, Perpetua. It is so nice to have those memories to hold onto between meetings, isn’t it? I’m sure you miss those boys and enjoy your time with them. I did, Perpetua, and will be writing about our new silly tradition.

Happy Valentine’s Day Penny. You had such a good time with Kezzie, I know the memories will keep you going until next visit. (And that drive would do me in for the rest of the day and next!)

Thank you, Sallie. Good memories are such gifts, aren’t they? They drive did do me in for most of the day, but, I’m starting to get a second wind and hope to tell you all about our new dining spot for Valentine’s Day soon.

Happy Valentines Day to you Penny. Congratulations on the new baby in your life!
As for that new baby smell. I can still remember that so well. . . Second to none!!
I am at RUSH the whole week. R had knee replacement yesterday. Be back soon

Or did I read your post wrong? New baby or no new baby??? M.A.

Thank you, Mary Anne. No, it’s the same baby, now a toddler, but I’m still smelling her baby smell. She loves her “baf” in the big tub, now, with all her “baf” toys and smells so sweet afterwards and I always managed a hug or two.
Now, here you are commenting from Rush! Sorry to hear about R and the replacement, though I recall you mentioned it was coming. Here’s to a speedy recovery. Thoughts and prayers are coming your way. Penny

Well, Valentines Day for you was full of sweet parting, and mine was filled with sweet reunion: having Mira here to stay the night after 6 weeks’ absence. How delicious these little ones are! 7 hours is a long journey, but well worth it, I can see. Happy Valentines Day.

Oh, how wonderful, Juliet! I’m sure you’ve been having a wonderful time with Mira. Six is a long time, and she was so very far away. I’ll look forward to perhaps a few pictures of Mira helping you with something or other. Yes, a long ride, but, an audio book kept me company and it was so worth the time. Thank you.

I think after such a wonderfully loving visit there are three of you who probably couldn’t get too motivated today–you, your daughter, and Kezzie must have missed you, too! And I’ll bet the 7 hours to get to them is a much easier drive than the 7 hours home! Hope you can visit again very soon! Debra

Ah, yes, Debra. I think we all miss each other, but, know there will be more moments to savor. How right you are about the trip up as opposed to the trip back, but Tom was waiting with a pot of tea at the ready and dinner. I hope he can come with next time, which will likely be Kezzie’s March birthday.
I hope to visit your post and catch up tomorrow.

Rose petals, how romantic! I find it best to take a full day to relax and recover after a trip, especially if I was sad to leave.

Good way to handle the lag, jet or otherwise, Janet. I always seem to need extra sleep – a bit of fatigue and a bit of the blues.
