Ring out the old, ring in the new
Ring, happy bells, across the snow
The year is going, let him go
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

Happy New Year, dear friends. May 2014 be filled with good health and good cheer.

And the same to you, Janet.
Still snowing here. Quite a bit today.

The nastier it is outside, the happier I am to be staying home tonight! I love your photo of the bell tower, it reminds me of the little white Methodist Church I attended as a child! By the way, are you having Vassilopita tonight?

Oh, Janet, I’m not. Just your writing Vassilopita here makes me want to. Not quite the same, but, I do have a bread mix and a coin I can toss in. hmmmm?
The church is the one on Main Street in Lombard, near Lilacia Park. The Maple Street Chapel. I happened to have my camera with when Tom had his most recent appointment.. Bitter cold, snowy day, not unlike today. I’m glad to be inside as well. We’re doing a Back to the Future marathon. Silly, I know, but, we took the girls to see it on New Year’s Eve when it first came out in 1985.

I like the idea of the bells ringing out the false and ringing in the true. May the bells ring in many good things for you and your family Penny.

And thank you for those splendid wishes, Penny. I certainly wish the same for you and Tom and your precious family. There is always something a little hopeful about the shift from one year to the next. It is still only mid-afternoon of the 31st, but I have been enjoying hearing the news chime out Happy New Year across the international time zones. I’ll still be wide awake when new year’s hits the cutoff…and I’ll think of you, my friend. oxo

Thank you, Debra. It is that glimmer of hope that I think we grab on to right now at year’s end. Tom and I are both feeling hopeful right now, for sure. We have about four hours to go here at the moment, but, doubt that I’ll still be up, choosing to nestle under covers and a long winter’s nap on the frigid eve. Glad to know you will still be awake, and that Cath, below, is already seeing the 2014 in across the pond.
