Here’s Ezra
Wednesday, July 9, 2014 by lifeonthecutoff

Here’s Ezra, out on the grassy knoll, having a fun time running around the back acreage, getting all sweaty and exploring our simple life on the Cutoff with his big sister, Kezzie, and cousins Jake and Scott (who shared a great big bag of Thomas the Train and all of Thomas’ friends). The camera “caught” our young lad rounding the wildlife habitat.

What a busy, long weekend was had; decorating a cake for Papa’s birthday with Auntie Jenny, and “funning” around the backyard,

and taking a walk at Lake Katherine, then visiting the Plush Horse for big scoops of ice cream. Kezzie shared a small table with another little lass while Ezra dipped into ice cream for the very first time.

All-in-all, ’twas just plain old fashioned enjoyment with family gathered together, here on the Cutoff.

They are both growing and changing so much, Penny.

Ezra’s curls remind me of our older son’s at that age. Sometimes a challenge to comb!

Not only a challenge to comb, buy, my-oh-my, the things that get caught in the ringlets (like food). His hair is pretty long and mostly air dried. I was lovingly calling him Art Garfunkle. 🙂

They are a bit to comb! I try to not comb curls too much but the food dreadlocks need some care for sure (and extra moisture).

Thanks, Katy. As you know, Ezra’s mommy had these same curls, only I wasn’t enough aware of using a spray bottle of water as you do. The food; ah, the food that gets caught in dreadlocks are mighty challenges, indeed. 🙂

What beautiful children! Thank goodness for family… my ‘family’ time starts tomorrow and lasts for four days. We are both blessed.

Of course, I had to click on every single photo to get a closer view of your Life on the Cutoff and the whole family. Auntie Jenny is a real beauty and of course the kids are adorable and growing up so quickly. I love that you are making memories with them. Enjoy the fun while they are there and the memories after they return to the North. Sigh, smile, relax, and remember.

I’m so glad you did, Janet. There is much to miss by not clicking on.
Thank you. She is, both inside and out, and the kids adore her. Thank you. We had a good time and I think we are building some memories. I’m always surprised at what Kezzie remembers. The first thing she wanted to do, first morning, was have breakfast in the arbor – and did I make her pumpkin muffins. We did. Ezra is sitting in the high chair in the previous post, which Papa hauled outside.
The house is quiet now and I am sighing, smiling, relaxing, and remembering. It gets so quiet, so quickly, doesn’t it when the grands go back home.

Oh what joy! Everything looks so green, and you are surrounded in young energy. Little Ezra looks full of life, and Kezzie is looking quite grownup now. What a blessing it is to have a loving family. ‘Plain, old-fashioned enjoyment’: how precious it is.

We’ve had so much rain that it is quite green at this time of year, here, Juliet.
Young energy. Perfect. It is amazing how fast a 22 month old can run. He was going pell mell, this way and that, enjoying his brief freedom. Kezzie has grown so much. Did I mention all the nests she made in the yard from grass clippings? She has a vivid imagination. Love it – and all the blessing we have. Thanks, Juliet.

What a sweet family gathering, the simplest times often make the best memories. My oldest daughter (red head) had curls like Ezra’s. Chrissy managed to get gum stuck in her
red ringlets ~ oh, what fun was had!

Oh, gum . . . that’s a pretty tricky dilemma. Did you end up cutting some of the curls. Our Kezzie managed to get a battery operated toy car (or truck) stuck in her hair – as did her curly topped mommy before her many years ago. At any rate, curly hair and food seem to go together. 🙂

A friend of mine came to the rescue ~ with peanut butter and we only had to cut a little bit! Chrissy had tried to save a piece of gum, that had already been chewed, under her pillow like she had seen on a T.V. show! I was just relieving this story with her today ~ many giggles!

I always forget things lim peanut butter for gum when I need it! Sigh. Glad you friend came to your rescue and that you and Chrissy can giggle and smile years later. 🙂

Oh such fun (I’m glad you ‘found’ Ezra). Lovely weekend and it brings back wonderful memories (of course). Just had a note from our oldest grandson who (with his lovely wife) just returned from a Kayak trip across the Baja Peninsula … and has begun Graduate School at the UOregon. Life goes on and how can I remember when he was Ezra’s age and yet I myself have not aged a day.

Me too 🙂
Amazing that we never age, Sallie. We are all a bit like Merlin, especially when it comes to our grandchildren, and, in your case, great grands. Isn’t it fun to watch them grow up and be at a point that your oldest grandson is attending Graduate School. Congratulations – on that accomplishment AND that he keeps in touch with you. Wonderful.

Perpetua, it was sheer joy to watch the kids having fun, running, chasing, picking dandelions and clover in the garden. We truly are blessed to have this big space and to share it with the children.
