Happy St. Patrick’s Day Penny! I am sure you will be enjoying some soda bread today with your tea 😉

. . . and to you, Janet. Ingredients are out to make soda bread – and lots of butter, including a good slab of Irish butter to slather on top. Every year, I think of making it with caraway, as you have mentioned, but, always slip back to my old recipe.

I love this Irish blessing Penny. Today I took a different bus, which meant I walked past an Irish pub in which right by the open window a man was signing ‘The Black Velvet Band’ in a melodious Irish voice. I stopped to listen and gave him enthusiastic applause. I have a touch of the Irish in me, and love the music.

Ahhhh, what a sweet sound that must have been, Juliet. I love the music as well. Janet, who commented above, has introduced me to some lovely Irish musicians. It is an old Irish blessing, but, always work for me. Best wishes to you.

Thank you, Bev. Just getting ready to turn the slow cooker on and wishing I wasn’t so busy right now or I’d bring a loaf over to Elijah’s for all of us to share like the “old days” in the Chocolate Moon. 🙂

We are just about ready to sit down and enjoy it, Marilyn. While I have not a drop of Irish blood, I make a pretty good Irish meal – and really good Irish soda bread. I wish you could join us.
I’m glad you stopped by. I’ve been a bit worried about our friend, Midnight. He hasn’t been around in months – but, saw him late afternoon, mousing about in the lot next door, looking quite the King of the Kingdom.

Amen to that! Things are slowly greening-up around here, but, it’s March in the Midwest and we all know we can still have some snow. 🙂

What a lovely blessing, Penny! I took the easy route tonight and stopped at a local store and bought corned beef and cabbage dinners–all hot and ready! 🙂 That was my contribution to St. Patrick’s Day under our roof. LOL! Blessings to you, too, my friend.

Sounds like the perfect way to go, Debra. I cook mine in the slow cooker, so, it just simmered away all day. The soda bread was a different story. I made two loaves earlier to share, then two right before our dinner; one to gobble up, the other for our neighbor. We manage to use up a year’s fat content in one day. 🙂
I’m sure yours was delicious – and no mess to clean up.
Blessings to you as well, Debra.

Penny I tried to copy your St.Patrick’s poem to my Facebook page but I wasn’t successful . It is beautiful. A happy St.Patrick’s Day to you with lots of soda bread and smothered butter,

I’m sorry you weren’t able to copy it, Gerlinde. You can try sharing it from my Facebook page. This is one of my favorite Irish blessings, and I have used it before. I made only four loaves this year, but, have enough buttermilk that I might do one more batch. Wish we could share a loaf over a cup of tea or coffee.

Whew! I always am concerned when a long period of time goes by without a Midnight sighting! Thank you for letting me know about my favorite Chicago feline. I am hooked now on the live Eagle camera from D.C. That fluffy eaglet is the cutest thing in the world. The second one is on the way!

Some day, soon, Midnight will come calling, looking for a bowl of milk, and I hope I will get a photo. 🙂
The eaglet is adorable and it will be exciting when the sibling makes a grand entrance. For all the world’s troubles, it is an exciting time we live in with such close-up views of nature.
Daffodils pushing through with yellow tips showing. Blooms. Soon. Have a good weekend, Marilyn.

Such a lovely blessing, Penny! Isn’t it wonderful to see more and more green emerging in the garden each day? Soon the Daffodil Glade at the arboretum will be all abloom! So happy that our paths crossed last weekend, Penny!! It felt like meeting a dear friend for the very first time! Happy Springtime! ♡

It is wonderful, indeed, Dawn. I saw my first daffodil blooms in a forest preserve yesterday as well as the delightful surprise of trillium and I can hardly wait for the wonderful showing in the Daffodil Glade. THAT is truly a sign of spring. I’m happy our paths finally crossed and we were able to meet face-to-face as well, Dawn (and we have the photo to prove it! 🙂 and what better place than the library. It’s Spring. Enjoy your day.
