Oddly enough, Tony Orlando and Dawn have been singing away in my head lately.
Knock three times, on the ceiling if you want me,
twice on the pipes, if the answer is no
There I was, water raining down, my hair all wet and lathered up, when the water pressure slowly diminished until it was but a mere dribble. It would have been easier to rinse with an eye dropper. I somehow managed to get the soap out – and then became shower-deprived, followed by flusher deprived- if you know what I mean.
For awhile, we were able to wash dishes and hands and use water by tapping on a valve, in the basement, two flights down. This meant we both needed to be in the house. It was, shall I say, an interesting “tap” dance in marital harmony.
I hesitated to complain, but DID, quite vociferously, in fact, to my beloved Antler Man, who had been waiting to shower for a very long time as he recovered from a foot wound. Instead of a shower he was employed in fixing the flusher (which I just wrote for alliteration). We did, in the end, need a new pressure valve and then, a few days later, a new tank. Thank heaven for this dear man who meets many such challenges and for our neighbor Rick who lent a helping hand and some expertise.
All’s well that ends well and a few more horticultural posts are perking away.
Besides being in a flush, I’ve been busy with family, gardening, and life in general and apologize for being absent for such a long while. I hope you are all doing well. For now, while I take another shower, here’s a clip from a movie I enjoy viewing every-now-and-again. Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation. It reminds me of our recent plumbing issues here on the Cutoff.
Showers are a good thing. 🙂

So sorry you had problems. I’m so glad that Antler Man came to the rescue. I love that you could make light of the situation, having no water is not fun. I have been there and have done that.
Didn’t we sing Knock Three Times when we had downstairs neighbors in that first apartment in college? Lol

It certainly isn’t, Janet. I think we all have this happen at least once in our lives.
Haha! Now that you mention it, we did. They were in the garden apartment.

Oh dear! Plumbing problems are such a challenge. So glad that Antler Man is feeling better and was was able to come to the rescue! After that memorable ‘lathered up’ experience, one doesn’t take the convenience of running water for granted. I just love your talent for sharing a tale of woe while making us smile. Big hugs, dear Penny! ♡

He is pretty resourceful, but, still, it was a challenge. We were both happy when we had running water again. 🙂
Thank you, Dawn. I certainly wasn’t a happy camper when we were in the throes of this, but, always better to find a way to smile. Hugs back at ya – and it is storming here right now.

I was getting worried about you, Penny! Missed your posts–although you do write more often than I do. Sorry about the water problem. You write so well that it sounds amusing, but I’m sure it wasn’t at the time. I’m happy things are back to normal now and that you’re doing OK.

So sorry to worry you, Susan. I don’t usually go this long and if anticipated I give a warning. It’s just been one of those times, for several reasons, one of which was the water situation. There were moments when one of us would start singing this and it would lighten the mood. I am happy that it sounds amusing. I was hoping so. 🙂

Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation was one of my favorite movies to watch whenever it came on tv! Your water issue sounds like a nightmare – I’m glad it’s over!

It is a fun, lighthearted movie and a favorite of mine as well, Janet. Jimmy Stewart and Fabian. 🙂 It was a bit of a nightmare, in two installments! Tom in special boots and me working on a deadline. It is amazing how much we take these things for granted. Now that all is fixed we are realizing how low our pressure has been for some time.

Relieved for the update as I was starting to clutch my pearls! Challenges of living in older (?) homes can be frustrating. Am glad all is well and you and Antler Man can get on with life. I missed you! Stay cool—it’s wicked hot here.

Sorry for the worry (and appreciate it) Marilyn. This is a very old house and we are on our own well, so . . . glad this is behind us. 🙂 We have been having oppressive heat here as well, breaking records. We always seem to like breaking weather records here. 🙂 We did have a bit of storm, which was nice as it saved me from watering, but, now it is even more humid. Sigh. Stay cool as well, Marilyn – and thank you.

Oh my goodness, Penny! How distressing! I know that in the grand scheme of life’s problems a plumbing issue isn’t necessarily the worst, but I have every sympathy for you! Even a minor clogged drain can disrupt a household, and it sounds to me like you’ve had more than a minor disruption! I feel so sorry that your dear Antler Man had to delay his long awaited shower. I do hope that now you can get on with much happier pursuits and wanderings. 🙂

It sure helps to have a handy husband handy! Bill can do just about all those necessary household maintenance, but plumbing is definitely his least favorite. Glad you got your ‘flusher fixed’.

Tom’s pretty handy, as is your Bill. He can figured most things out, but, plumbing can be tricky (or so I hear 🙂 ) We are very grateful to able to flush and turn on the faucets. Thanks, Sallie. I hope your traveling is going well.
